Man dies after being struck in the throat by a branch while boating

A young man died Friday in a boating accident on the Yentna River, Alaska State Troopers said.

Christopher Stringer, 22, of Wasilla was struck in the throat by a low-hanging tree branch as he leaned over the railing of a boat as the vessel headed up the river around 9 p.m., troopers said.

Stringer was pronounced dead by medical personnel at Deshka Landing about an hour and a half later, troopers said. His body was released to his family.
